Mr. Greer I am writing this letter to tell you that Gettin Grown was a very interesting movie. Even though I had to leave early because of other engagements I can't wait to see that movie on a big film. From what I saw it really showed how young boys are growing up in a neighborhood where there is violence and having an overprotective mother watching over you. I only saw up to the part when he was at the pharmacy and he didn't have the money for his grandmothers prescription. I really can't beleive that the uncle done that to him over alcohol. It just shows what people will do when they are addicted to something. The uncle really felt that the next beer was more important than his mothers medicine. I just want to thank you again for coming to Alabama A&M University and showing us that film. It would definately be a sell out at the movie theatres. Many Thanks Teresa
Ok so I guess I'll start off by writing about the Narrative of Frederick Douglas and how I felt about the book. When I first starting reading the book I was horrified by it and what people had to endure when they where slaves. The young people of today have so much to be thankful as we are so blessed that those days are over. To think he didn't even know his birthdate is also sad and I'm sure it makes many of us appreciate ours even more. It was kind of shocking to see that he married a white woman after all he had went through but then again I guess he wasn't the type to hold a gruge against others just because a few of them treated him wrong. And he was half white so it really showed me that color to him did not matter but the what the person is like on the inside. This was a great book, and I would like to thank you for introducing it to the class.
It is now the end of the term and I am here trying to do all my blogs. Thanks Dr. Shattuck for giving me a chance to catch. I'm sure you understand why I haven't been able to keep up. Thanks again.
I feel that Sonny's Blues is a very nice story. Even though it is a very old story, many young man can relate to it. It gives the readers a feeling of what many young man are being faced with today, like dropping out of school and becoming addicted to drugs. I really felt sorry for the brother and all he went through, from losing his father, mother and then his daughter. Then he had the responsiblity of having to look out for Sonny. I'm glad at the end he was able to understand Sonny and see exactly what he was going through. I'm sure Sonny was excited to finally have the relationship with his brother that he was needing for so long.
Good Morning Class
